Ian Burton started playing music when he was in middle school. Throughout high school he played drums in punk rock bands and sang in choral groups. After graduating he decided to leave his small hometown in Vermont and head to the west coast. In order to continue playing music while on the road Ian taught himself guitar. It was through the old-time music scene that Ian was introduced to Jimmy Rogers and the Carter Family, which eventually led to his obsession with country music. The next ten years were spent roaming the country, working seasonal jobs, writing songs, and playing with various folk/punk/metal bands. In 2014 when he finally decided it was time to start a country band, tragedy struck. Ian mangled his hand while using a table saw. He gave up his dream of playing country music and enrolled at community college. In order to fill the musical void, he started playing drums again. After a couple of years of not playing guitar or singing, he slowly taught himself to play again, and by 2017 he had put together the country band known as Wild Leek River.
